THE GREAT RIFT VALLEY
The Great Rift Valley is one of the wonders of the world, stretching from the Middle East (i.e. Syria through the Jordan-Dead Sea-Red Sea), down through Africa, reaching as far as Mozambique. The staggering scenic view, as you approach from Nairobi is quite unbelievable. The ground suddenly disappears from under you to show the huge expanse of the great rift, stretching for thousands of miles in either direction. Whilst this stunning introduction to the Rift valley is amazing in itself, actually descending and exploring the Lakes area of the Rift in Kenya is a "not to be missed" opportunity. Day 1: Nairobi – Lake Naivasha Pick up from your Nairobi hotel and drive to Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley with a scenic view of the valley en route. After check in at Lake Naivasha Sopa or similar, have a boat ride on one of the Rift Valley’s fresh water lakes and/or visit Hell’s Gate or the Cresent Island. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Lake Naivasha Day 2: Naivasha – Lake Baringo Day 3: – Lake Bogoria
Lake Bogoria. Day 4: Lake Baringo – Lake Nakuru National Park Depart Lake Baringo after breakfast and drive leisurely to Lake Nakuru where you arrive in time for lunch. After lunch, have an afternoon game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park. It is one of the most scenic parks in East Africa, a bird and rhino sanctuary and is home to a wide range of animals including lions, leopards, buffalos, giraffes, waterbucks and rhinos, the only notable exception being the elephant. The park is also a bird watcher’s paradise, with 400 known species having been spotted here. Vegetation ranges from savannah to various indigenous forests. A world heritage site, Lake Nakuru is most famous for the breathtaking sight of its million-plus grand pink flamingo population joined into a massive flock of pulsating pink swathe of live carpet on water.
